I hear that they wont let you buy the tickets at the office box.. but if you send a local to buy it for ya, or just get on the train and buy it from the chofers would be ok (?) anyone with that experience?

I am an American living in Cairo. The government takes protecting foreigners very seriously you have to remember it's a honor/shame culture. Also, if something happens it isn't good for tourism which is a huge source of income for the country. As a foreigner you are only allowed to live in certain places in the city. It's not a disappointment but rather something you need to understand about the culture and do more research before arriving to a what is a foreign country to you. Well, wishes on future travels!

With what I saw in this video (and seen in other videos) about the realities in Egypt, my country Iran seems like a developed nation! I am never complaining about the state of things in Iran ever again. Compared to many developING countries, Iran is far more advanced. I guess if one day I come to Egypt as a tourist, I am going to stick to tourist areas and just pay the damned 80 or 100 dollars to get on the tourist train. That's not because I consider myself better than the locals, but I just can't stand noise, crowdedness, and filth. I am not that kind of tourist!

Local people are anyways mingling with foreigners in Egypt more than any other country. So what's the point in not allowing foreigners in normal trains. It may be to earn more revenue from foreigners by the Railway.
